Salt air is what destroys RCC jalis on the coast — chlorides reach the steel, it rusts and the concrete spalls. GRC jali has no steel reinforcement, so this failure mode does not exist.
Specify stainless steel (SS 304, or SS 316 for sea-facing walls) or hot-dip galvanised anchors and frames — ordinary MS fixings are the weak point near the sea.
Apply a breathable silane–siloxane water repellent after installation to reduce water uptake, staining and algae.
Seal panel joints with a flexible PU or MS-polymer sealant and detail drip edges on horizontal tops before the monsoon.
